Daniel Carruthers Shares USANA with Elite Cyclists

We always enjoy getting updates from USANA-sponsored cyclist Daniel Carruthers. He is an elite athlete who provides valuable insight into the mind of a racer — and the importance of proper nutrition pre- and post-race, as well as during the grueling competitions.

Be sure to check out previous updates from Daniel and take a look at his blog, where he posts lots of great information.

For his latest update, Daniel asked fellow riders to share their thoughts expressly for What's Up, USANA? readers. He also took the photos.
Stage Bike Racing and USANA Products
Stage racing is strenuous, as you saw if you followed the Tour de France. Riders are required to perform at a top level each day to achieve success. The ability to perform at your peak day after day is aided by several important factors including adequate rest, nutrition and massages.

After intense physical activity, it is important to replenish your body as soon as possible. The riders on the team I was supporting at the Tour of Luzon in March looked to Nutrimeal. They did not want to consume solid food straight away, especially with the heat.

Several riders who took part in the Tour of Luzon had the opportunity to try some USANA products over the course of nine days. They shared a few comments with me:

Mike Naylor – Kiwi Cyclist
"I thought the Nutrimeal shakes were great. Awesome taste and very refreshing. I definitely felt better after having one. Particularly good when finishing stages which were remote from the hotel (e.g finishing up the hill on Stage 7). The shake gave me the 'legs' to be able to ride back no problem."

Lex Nederlorf – Dutch Pro Cyclist
"The [Nutrimeal] is extremely good. I have taken many such products over the years of bike racing, but found that the USANA Nuutrimeal was particularly effective."

Tom Ashely – Kiwi Junior Cyclist
"I thought the Nutrimeal shakes were a huge help during the Tour of Luzon. I usually struggle to ride more than five days back-to-back, especially at race intensity. I found the shakes tasted good and were so were easy to drink, even straight after a race. I would recommend the shakes to any athlete doing endurance exercise."

Nutrimeal definitely had an impact with the riders. They said the shakes were easy to drink directly after completing a stage. This is the critical point where riders need to get calories back into their system. But often they do not feel ready to eat anything, and this makes USANA Nutrimeal very attractive to many riders.

Thanks to USANA Philippines for your generous support during the Tour of Luzon and I look forward to seeing the USANA team in the Philippines next time we are there.
Thanks for the update, Daniel!
